Obama Cannot Win
Who said:
They were kids. The story is out, I don't know if it's true or not, but apparently the hijackers, these kids, the merchant marine organizers, Muslim kids, were upset, they wanted to just give the captain back and head home because they were running out of food, they were running out of fuel, they were surrounded by all these US Navy ships, big ships, and they just wanted out of there. That's the story, but then when one of them put a gun to the back of the captain, Mr. Phillips, then bam, bam, bam. There you have it, and three teenagers shot on the high seas at the order of President Obama. That's got to be some America-hating liberal...right? So no matter what President Obama did....it would have been criticized.
"Overcollection" of Data by NSA
And in one previously undisclosed episode, the N.S.A. tried to wiretap a member of Congress without a warrant, an intelligence official with direct knowledge of the matter said.Maybe this quote from a NYT article will wake up Congress. Spying on Americans is one thing Congress might ignore, but spying on a sitting member of Congress is a whole other matter.
The agency believed that the congressman, whose identity could not be determined, was in contact — as part of a Congressional delegation to the Middle East in 2005 or 2006 — with an extremist who had possible terrorist ties and was already under surveillance, the official said. The agency then sought to eavesdrop on the congressman’s conversations, the official said.
It does confuse me that the "Teabaggers" don't seem to have a problem with the government spying on Americans. Talk about fascism....

Some Revolutionary History Picts
The house in the background is the "Manse". Nathanial Hawthorne and Ralph Waldo Emerson lived in this house that was owned by Emerson's father.

Rightwing Extremists Worry DHS
The DHS/Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) has no specific information that domestic rightwing* terrorists are currently planning acts of violence, but rightwing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues. The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment. The above is a paragraph from a report issued by the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, a branch of the Department of Homeland Security.
Rightwing extremists have capitalized on the election of the first African American president, and are focusing their efforts to recruit new members, mobilize existing supporters, and broaden their scope and appealSeems the wingers might not like the fact that our new President is black.
through propaganda, but they have not yet turned to attack planning.
Boston, Ipswich, Lexington, Concord & Portsmouth,
The story of my long weekend spent eating my way through New England will be posted shortly.
The American Way
This does seem to be a uniquely American phenomenon.
I have no idea how to solve the problem. The Constitution seems to give us the right to bear arms. Unfortunately, the founders never envisioned assault weapons.
This is the American way. Since Sept. 11, 2001, when the country’s attention understandably turned to terrorism, nearly 120,000 Americans have been killed in nonterror homicides, most of them committed with guns. Think about it — 120,000 dead. That’s nearly 25 times the number of Americans killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. We went to war with 2 countries because several thousand Americans were killed on 9/11, yet we allow many times that number of Americans to be killed by gun fanatics who just have to own an assault rifle. Too bad we didn't have drugs that could increase the size of these gun nuts penis. Maybe then the killing would stop.
