John McCain: Lying Job Applicant
Josh Marshall at TalkingPoints Memo makes an excellent point. Most people understand that John McCain is telling lies. These are not misstatements or flubs in a speech. He is repeating lies that have been proven to be lies. Everyone but the most diehard, Republican hack understands this.
Now let's say you own a business and you are interviewing applicants for a job. Would you hire a known liar? Why would we trust a liar with the care of our government?

Atomic Structure
We've been learning the fundamentals of atomic structure in my classes this week. You know...protons, neutrons, electrons. Also, chemical bonding...covalent, ionic, hydrogen, and van der Waals forces. And, a little chemistry humor:
A neutron walks into a bar and orders a drink. After finishing the drink, the neutron asks the bartender "what's the charge"? The bartender replies, "no charge".
I crack myself up.

Who is Being Disrespected? American Voters!
McCain/Palin are calling the uppity, black guy....disrespectful? The black guy needs to start showing some deference and stop calling Palin a liar (we don't use that word, even if it's true).
I'll tell you who is really being disrespected. The American voters are being disrespected. In my opinion, for a real democracy to succeed, voters need to be given accurate, truthful, information on which to base their voting decisions. They also need to hear the honest, unspun views of the candidates specific policies. This is not happening. Obama is too busy being on the defensive and McCain is too busy lying.
It's become a bit scary over the last couple of decades. Can a country truly be a democracy when either voting decisions or policy decisions are based on lies? What is even scarier, is that a good percentage of the American people don't seem to care that they are being told lies or even worse, cannot tell a lie from the truth.
I have lost any respect I have ever held for John McCain. One good thing about McCain however, at least for President G.W. Bush....if McCain/Palin win the election, there is a good chance that Pres. Bush will look good in retrospect.

Book Banning?
In my opinion, there are few things more dangerous than a person who wants to ban books.

Andrew Sullivan - The Thinking Conservative
Andrew Sullivan is a conservative of the old school. He once admired John McCain. Not anymore.
So far, he has let us all down. My guess is he will continue to do so. And that decision, for my part, ends whatever respect I once had for him. On core moral issues, where this man knew what the right thing was, and had to pick between good and evil, he chose evil. When he knew that George W. Bush's war in Iraq was a fiasco and catastrophe, and before Donald Rumsfeld quit, McCain endorsed George W. Bush against his fellow Vietnam vet, John Kerry in 2004. By that decision, McCain lost any credibility that he can ever put country first. He put party first and his own career first ahead of what he knew was best for the country.
News Flash! - bin Laden Not Responsible for 9/11 Attacks
This is something I did not know. It turns out that Osama bin Laden was not the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks. That's why we haven't gone after him I guess.

A Theocrat is a Theocrat, whether Muslim or Christian
It's hard to argue with Juan Cole's logic about fundamentalists. Prof. Cole asks "What's the Difference Between Palin and Muslim Fundamentalists? Lipstick".
John McCain announced that he was running for president to confront the "transcendent challenge" of the 21st century, "radical Islamic extremism," contrasting it with "stability, tolerance and democracy." But the values of his handpicked running mate, Sarah Palin, more resemble those of Muslim fundamentalists than they do those of the Founding Fathers. On censorship, the teaching of creationism in schools, reproductive rights, attributing government policy to God's will and climate change, Palin agrees with Hamas and Saudi Arabia rather than supporting tolerance and democratic precepts. What is the difference between Palin and a Muslim fundamentalist? Lipstick. It's hard to disagree.
Some Harsh Words About the McCain Campaign
Read these comments by Josh Marshal at Talking Points Memo. Here is a sample:
On earmarks she's an even bigger crock. On the trail with McCain they're telling everyone that she's some kind of earmark slayer when actually, when she was mayor and governor, in both offices, she requested and got more earmarks than virtually any city or state in the country.Am I the only one astonished that Republicans can ignore the lies out of Palin's and McCain's mouths? Why will they accept these lies? Because they want McCain elected of course. They want him elected so that he can change Washington. Change things that McCain and Republicans have been responsible for over the last 8 years. That's change you can believe in.
Think about that. On the stump, not a single word that comes out of her mouth -- or not a single word that the McCain folks put in her mouth -- is anything but a lie. I know that sounds like hyperbole. But just go down the list. None of them bear out.
More on Unvetted Palin
If John McCain had done his job, or at least not caved to the Christian Fundamentalist, Sarah Palin would likely not be his running partner. McCain has left the press to do his vetting for him. What is the latest? It seems Gov. Palin has been charging the State of Alaska a "per diem" allowance for nights she spent at home.
ANCHORAGE, Sept. 8 -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has billed taxpayers for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a "per diem" allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business.Naturally they have a perfectly reasonable "explanation" for taking the per diem, an explanation that all good conservatives will immediately accept.

Palin Opposed the Bridge to Nowhere?
Bullshit. She was in favor of the bridge to nowhere until it was a political liability. The bridge didn't get built but Gov. Palin kept the pork money anyway.
Smart women? She thinks the founding fathers recited the pledge of allegiance. She thinks Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were government organizations. I think she does need a few weeks of tutoring on what is what in government.
The Obama campaign finally calls a lie a lie.
Sarah Palin's Secret Emails
Just like G.W. Bush, Sarah Palin has political emails she will not share with the public. Read all about it here....I'm sure there will be more. No wonder the Republicans are so afraid to let press ask Palin real questions. Does anyone REALLY believe this women was properly vetted by McCain to be VP of the USA?
McCain's Temper Tantrums
Everyone has heard the rumors about John McCain's infamous temper. But this report from the McClatchy Washington Bureau is worth a read. I now understand a bit more why McCain's Republican colleagues don't care for him too much.
Alaska Blogger Andrew Halcro
Andrew Halcro is an Alaska politician and former Republican member of the Alaska legislature. He also ran against Sarah Palin for governor in 2006 and was decisively beaten by Palin.
So what? Well, it turns out that Mr. Halcro has a blog that discusses Alaska political issues (including Sarah Palin). The blog is interesting and the comments are even more interesting. It's a good opportunity to get a feel for how some residents of Alaska feel about Gov. Palin.

McCain Continues to Lie without Embarrassment
McCain continues to lie about Sarah Palin's opposition to the "bridge to nowhere". But how can it be a lie? That political ad gives a citation! Unfortunately, there is no mention of Sarah Palin's opposition to the "bridge to nowhere" in that article.

Question from Senator Imbecile
Sen. Jim Inhofe, one of the most ignorant members of the US Senate, has a question for you:
Remember the vote to provide funding for additional armor for humvees? Inhofe hopes you don't because he voted against it. How about votes on bills that supported veterans? On ten votes since 2003 that affected military veterans, Inhofe voted against 8 of them....he was absent for the other two.
Sen. Inhofe is not questioning Sen. Obama's patriotism? Patriotism is love of country and Obama has shown his love of country far better than has Sen. Inhofe.
Sen. Inhofe then goes on to clarify himself:
"Do you really want to have a guy as commander in chief of this country when you can question whether or not he really loves
his country?"
"Let me be clear,'' he said. It's a good thing our country doesn't have more patriots like Sen. Inhofe. That he wears a flag lapel pin is about all the proof we have of Sen. Inhofe's patriotism.
"I am not questioning Sen. Obama's patriotism, but you have to question why at times he seems so obviously opposed to public displays of patriotism and national pride, like wearing an American flag lapel pin.''
