Twenty-six Lies About H.R. 3200

I'm certain a large number of people have seen the viral anti-health care reform email sent out by "flecksoflife" blog. Factcheck.org has gone over the email and found it contains 26 lies and the rest is misleading. Four of the points made in the email are true but usually not in the way the blogger thought they were. Twenty-six Lies About H.R. 3200 is worth reading and is very informative.

NOTE: Flecksoflife blogger disagrees with Factcheck.org

Cash for Clunkers - A Failure?

Not according to this guy's analysis.
The $3 billion program “pays for itself” in oil savings in 6 years. And most of that oil savings is money that would have left the country, so it is a (small) secondary stimulus.

Using a rough estimate of 25 pounds of CO2 per gallon of gas (full lifecycle emissions), then we’re saving over 1.5 million metric tons of CO2 per year — and all of the ancillary urban air pollutants from those clunkers — for free.

More Wing-Nuttery

LeRoy Schaffer, a St. Francis city council member, to Michelle Bachmann: “I’ll be danged if I am going to give up my Social Security because of socialism,” Schaffer said, before being booed by the crowd.

This even better than "keep your government hands off my Medicare."

RNC Health Care Survey - GOP Voters Disenfranchised

That's right. Now the "goverment run" health care is going to discriminate against members of the GOP. This isn't even really a survey...it's a fund raising gimmick for the GOP. Soon, health care reform will be taking away their guns too. It just gets better and better.

Topridge

You can find out as much as I know about Topridge by visiting wikipedia. I last visited when NYS owned Topridge. NYS was not wealthy enough to own the camp so eventually it passed to Harlan Crow, who evidently can afford to own it. In fact, it has been extensively updated since I visited almost 30 years ago. More to come.

How to Memorize the Bible

Here, but I'm really not sure why you would want to memorize the bible.

Get Your Neighbors to Help - Government Can't

Sen. Conrad tells the woman he will help her and that government cannot help and that government is not the answer. Is Sen. Conrad going to personally give this woman money to help with health care problems or is he going to refer her to some government program?

Republican Health Care Conspiracy

( above from here )

Here is an example of fighting fire with fire (or lies with lies). A suggestion from a commenter on a commie liberal fascist socialist maoist blog suggest we float this rumor about Republican opposition to health care reform.

Republicans are blocking health care reform because they want to increase the number of organs for transplants for rich people by harvesting organs from people without health insurance!

Seniors' Health Care Bill of Rights

The GOP has come out with a "Seniors' Health Care Bill of Rights".

PROTECT MEDICARE AND NOT CUT IT IN THE NAME OF HEALTH CARE REFORM But do remember that Medicare is government run, bankrupt and doesn't work.

PROHIBIT GOVERNMENT FROM GETTING BETWEEN SENIORS AND THEIR DOCTORS But it's perfectly ok for insurance company administrators to get between you and your doctor.

PROHIBIT EFFORTS TO RATION HEALTH CARE BASED ON AGE According to the GOP this is exactly what the "comparative effectiveness research commission". Wouldn't you want your doctor to know what medical research supports the most effective treatment?

PREVENT GOVERNMENT FROM INTERFERING WITH END-OF-LIFE CARE DISCUSSIONS Yeah, why don't you just wait until you are unresponsive and let great uncle Joe make decisions for you (BTW, is uncle Joe in your will?). The Democrats’ government-run health care experiment would have seniors meet with a doctor to discuss end-of-life care that could mean limiting treatment. How is meeting with your doctor government interference?

ENSURE SENIORS CAN KEEP THEIR CURRENT COVERAGE But....but....Medicare is broken, it's government health care. I thought we wanted to get government out of health care.

PROTECT VETERANS BY PRESERVING TRICARE AND OTHER BENEFIT PROGRAMS FOR MILITARY FAMILIES As Ronald Reagan put it so elegantly "there you go again". Health care for Veterans is government run. The government is incapable of running anything. If we care about our veterans we should let them purchase private health insurance.

Damn GOP hypocrits.

Back to Work

My very short summer vacation is over. It's back to work on Tuesday and I can't honestly say I'm looking forward to it. I think retirement would suit me very well. In any case, stay tuned. I will soon be posting some awesome pictures of Camp Topridge.
