Hunger in America

The USDA report, Household Food Security in the United States, 2004, says that 38.2 million Americans live in households that suffer directly from hunger and food insecurity, including nearly 14 million children. That figure is up from 31 million Americans in 1999.

Are we a wonderful country full of caring people or what?

How many people currently live in our country? How many in 1999? ie what percentages?

If this winter is a cold one and I have to run the heat a lot, I'll be one of those 32 million...

Total population grew about 3.5%
Hunger grew by 18.5%

Those stats shouldn't matter. There should not be any hungry people in a country as rich as ours.
