DDT As A Mosquito Repellent

Dr. Donald Roberts makes a case, in todays New York Times, for the use of DDT in controlling malaria.

I've heard this argument before. And as much as I'm disinclined to think so, there's some sense in it. At least until a better mosquito control option is developed.

I wonder how many people have died of Malaria since Rachel Carson wrote "Silent Spring"? Certainly many millions at least. Spraying DDT on the inside walls of houses to control malaria parasite-carrying mosquitos surely did not hurt birds.
